These tools solve different problems. Decide first whether you need the same address to keep receiving messages in the future.

Disposable email: a separate short-term inbox

A temporary inbox can receive a one-off link or a message from your own test flow without exposing your usual address in that form. It is a poor choice for password recovery, receipts or future notifications. Temp-Mail.se processes technical data including IP addresses; free inboxes follow the 10-minute active period plus 10-minute recovery rule, while account and Premium-linked inboxes are protected from free cleanup.

Aliases: extra addresses for an inbox you keep

An alias delivers to a lasting inbox. Separate aliases for shops and newsletters can help organize messages, and some providers let you disable an alias independently. Check whether replies work, whether the address survives cancellation and whether it supports account recovery. Forwarding means a provider processes your email; an alias is not automatically end-to-end encryption.

A plus address such as [email protected] may help sorting if supported, but it can expose the base address. Some websites also normalize or reject plus addresses.

Spam filters: sorting email after it is sent

A filter classifies or blocks incoming messages using signals such as sender reputation, authentication and content. Filters can miss spam or misclassify a legitimate message. They do not remove your address from websites that already have it.

Three examples

  1. Testing your app’s registration flow: disposable email can fit a short test.
  2. Buying from a shop: choose a lasting alias or permanent address for receipts and later contact.
  3. An existing inbox receives spam: maintain the filter and manage unwanted subscriptions.

Combine tools according to the task

A permanent inbox with filtering can handle important accounts, aliases can separate ongoing registrations and disposable email can handle short tests. You still need strong passwords and multi-factor authentication. Follow website terms and check links and senders.
